San Diego Hoʻolaulea

Live Hawaiian music and hula dancing.

Welcome to the San Diego Hoʻolauleʻa, an annual festival celebrating the culture of the Hawaiian Islands.

Our mission is to perpetuate Hawaiian culture through music and dance, both kahiko (ancient) and ʻauana (modern), and we welcome hālau (hula dance schools) both near and far. We host a family-friendly event right here in San Diego, with plenty of great food and shopping, and our cultural village offers educational activities for learning about the rich history of life on the islands.

The event was first held in 2011 by Uncle Jordan and Aunty Marla Martin, who hosted it yearly until 2021. With their help and blessing, it was revived in 2024 and is now hosted by Hālau Hula o Makalani Nā Pilialoha, a traditional hālau based in Vista and Chula Vista.
